The gala has come and gone, but our team is still reveling in the afterglow of a night filled with impact, celebration, and community. Thank you to everyone who showed up, gave generously, and helped make the evening so meaningful. There was something truly special about this year’s gathering. The room was filled with people who care deeply and came together to stand with women in Kansas City who have a future worth fighting for.
As the night continued and the live auction began, the room filled with laughter, connection, and incredible generosity. Having just completed construction on a new roof, we turned our focus to replacing worn windows, and watching paddles rise as each one was funded was unforgettable. One woman from our program shared afterward, “I didn’t know people cared that much about us.”
One of the most powerful moments of the evening came when board member Neil stood on stage and said, “I’m sorry.” As a former buyer who has since become an advocate, his words carried real weight. For many of the women in attendance who have been exploited, it may have been the first time hearing an apology from someone who once represented harm. It was a sacred moment, one marked by honesty, humility, and the beginning of healing.
Joy Marie is a tireless advocate for RPOR. Each week, she prepares meals for the women and uses her voice across Kansas City to champion this work among anti-trafficking organizations, law enforcement agencies, and local churches.
She ensures RPOR is seen, known, and supported throughout the Kansas City community.
Bob & Lynn Thompson have faithfully served at the center for more than four years, preparing fresh, thoughtful meals that reflect deep care and intentionality, and can only be described as a “farm to table” experience. They generously provide both the ingredients and their time, offering not just food, but dignity.
Their steady, gentle presence creates a sense of peace and belonging for women who have often experienced the opposite.
